australia house / common ground

This project is designed to establish a "common ground" between two very different cultures in which climatic and programmatic requirements are also in flux. The building is Australian and Japanese; a place of work and a place of rest; a public institution and a private residence. The parti is based on a transition between a single horizontal and vertical spatial condition. The experience of the building is cyclical and dynamic as one engages in a place that is between territories.

Project Team: Andrew Simpson, Michael Barraclough and Mel Buettikofer with FMD Architects and Aida Atelier
Completed: 2011
